WPL 2025 Highlights: Krikya Gujarat Giants beat UP Warriorz by 81 runs in Lucknow opener

Krikya LUCKNOW: Beth Mooney's unbeaten knock of 96 guided Gujarat Giants to an 81-run win over Uttar Pradesh Warriors to level the WPL series at 3-3. UP scored only 105 points.

Opening batsman Beth Mooney played a career-best knock in the Women's Super League to help Gujarat Giants beat home side Uttar Pradesh Warriors by 81 runs on Monday. That leaves the visitors with a draw in six games so far in this deep-pocketed league.

Mouni, one of the most consistent batsmen in the sport, used his power to hit the ball to all corners of the ground to score an unbeaten 96 runs from just 59 balls, with 17 of them going over the boundary and most of them past the bowler as the Gujarat giants posted a respectable 1865 runs on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Karna home turf.

In response, UP Warriorz lost two wickets quickly in the first innings and found it difficult to chase the big score. They lost by 105 points, their fourth loss of the season after two straight wins.

Deandra Dottin forced opener Kiran Navgire to steal the ball to Phoebe Litchfield on the second ball, then beat Georgia Voll to also score on the fifth. Not just that, Kasvee Gautam bowled Dinesh Vrinda (1) and Meghana Singh had Deepti Sharma caught by Mooney to put UP Warriorz in trouble at 25/4.

Thereafter, the Gujarat giants completed the task in just 17.1 overs. Kshvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar shared six wickets while Dottin's figures of 2/14 dashed any hopes of Uttar Pradesh Warriors winning the home opener.

Earlier, Australian left-handers Mooney and Harleen Dyer batted on the calm mixed-soil turf to lay a solid foundation for the first innings, scoring a total of 101 runs. Mooney, who scored an unbeaten 89 runs in the previous season, this time outclassed the UP Warriorz bowlers to become the highest individual scorer in this edition of the WPL.
