jeetbuzz168 India's fast-break spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was on Tuesday named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for December 2024 following his impressive performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour to Australia.
Bumrah single-handedly led the Indian attack, relentlessly putting immense pressure on the Australian batsmen, taking 22 wickets at an average of 14.22 in three Test matches in December last year.
In the five-match series that ended on January 5, he took 32 wickets. The International Cricket Council said his contribution to the tournament included a nine-wicket performance in Brisbane and a five-wicket performance in Melbourne, where he beat Australian captain Pat Cummins and South Africa. Captain Dan Parker won the championship. Tessen received the award.
He also reached a major milestone by becoming the first bowler to take 200 Test match wickets at an average of less than 20 wickets per match.
Bumrah’s talent was obvious from the outset and he performed extremely well in Adelaide. He took four consecutive wickets to help Australia reduce their first-innings lead and keep India within striking distance.
He then had another stunning performance in Brisbane, taking six wickets in the first innings and completely shattering the Australian team's batting order. Bumrah took three more wickets in the second innings to complete the nine-wicket win.
His efforts ensured that the rain-affected match ended in a draw, keeping India in the series.
In the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne, Bumrah once again had a brilliant performance.
He took four wickets in the first innings, providing a rare bright spot in an otherwise lacklustre bowling performance by the Indian team.
He then took 5 wickets in the second innings, bowling Australia out for 234 runs. .
India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3. Bumrah emerged as the lone warrior in this challenging tour of India and won the Player of the Series award.
