jeetwin Former Australia opener David Warner on Tuesday said he is willing to come back for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India if the home team asks him to start.


The 37-year-old left-handed opener announced his retirement after the home Test match against Pakistan earlier this year.


Although the home team won the game, Warner scored 34 and 57 points in the two innings.


"I'm always available, just pick up the phone. I'm always serious. To be honest, the guys have played one red-ball game since the last Test match in February, so I pretty much do Same preparation,"


Australia's home match against India is crucial to qualify for the World Test Championship final. The five-Test series will kick off in Perth on November 22.


While the Australian players are hard at work preparing for the Sheffield Shield, Warner will have to play some games to get fit and impress the selectors once again.


"Honestly, if they really need me for this series, I would be more than happy to play in the next Shield game.


"I did retire for the right reasons to finish the game, I wanted to finish the game, but if they desperately need someone, I'll put my hand up. I'm not going to shy away from that," he added.


Smith and Usman Khawaja, who have played four Test matches since Warner's retirement, have assumed opening duties.


Apparently, Khawaja has scored more points (227) than Smith (171) at this stage, with both scoring 50 points each, but neither of them scored. Their highest score was 75 runs and they scored an unbeaten 91 runs against the Windies.


The Kangaroos will be desperate to wrest the trophy from Rohit Sharma and co as they have lost the trophy in their previous four matches.
